School Library Policy
The library is a hub for learning. This is a place where the students of HWA enjoy reading for mental stimulation, for the development of stronger analytical thinking skills and for leisure reading. The library encourages students to become lifelong learners as they bask in the different reading resources availabe to them.
1. Library Opening Hours
• The library is open from 8:00am to 3:00pm.
• The students will be notified in the event that the library has to be closed.
2. Borrowing Privileges
• Members of the Library @ Hillside World Academy are entitled to borrow up to three books at a time.
• The loan period for books is 2 weeks.
• The student’s ID can functions as a library card.
• Students should take note that not all books are allowed to be checked out as some books are considered only as reference.
• Books borrowed by the school from the NLB are not allowed to be checked out, unless granted approval.
3. Renewal
• Books can be renewed for another 2 weeks.
• Each book can only be renewed once.
• A book can be renewed if:
• it has not been reserved by another member
• it has not been renewed before.
• it is not overdue.
4. Reservation
• Members can make reservation online using their account.
• A maximum of 3 items can be reserved at any one time.
• The reserved item needs to be collected in 2 days from the school librarian. Otherwise, it will expire and be removed from the reservation list.
• Notification by e-mail will be sent to the member.
5. Lost/Damaged Library Items
• For every item lost/damaged, the students will have to purchase the same titled book as a replacement.
• In the event that the book is no longer available, the students will have to replace a new book of equivalent value to the library.
• Cash payment is not accepted.
6. Library Essential Agreement
To keep the library environment pleasant, comfortable and conducive for learning, the students are expected to observe the following essential agreement:
• Speak softly at all times.
• Take care of all library materials and facilities at all times.
• Electronic gadgets in the library will be used only for educational purposes.
• Refrain from bringing food and drinks in the library.
• Take only a few books from the shelves at a time and return them to the shelves after reading.
• Anyone behaving unacceptably will be asked to leave.
